Top 10 (very instagrammable) day trips from London.

  1. Rye.

I love how in London you are literally a car ride away from being transported into a different era. I am looking at you Rye. Congratulations on being the first one on our list of best family friendly trips from London.  Medieval town of Rye is a place for fans of: Cobbled streets (ladies leave those heels at home – it’s trainers kind of a place, wait who even wears heels anymore?), Tudor houses, Vintage Tearooms ( we really enjoyed the The Hope Anchor’s hotel one),  queues outside a popular Marino’s Fish& Chips Bar, Jazz festival in the Summer which attracts some of the biggest names in jazz.

2.  Seaford Coastguard Cottages.

It’s considered one of the most picturesque and most photographed beaches in the UK. Need I say more?  Our girls had a really fun day at  Seaford’s Nature Reserve with our new friend – Sally the kite. You get an incredible backdrop for your photos with Seven Sisters Cliffs in the background as well as adorable cottages.

3. Beachy Head & Seven Sisters.

This is another view at Seven Sisters Cliffs. Perfect place for a hike and a picnic with a view.

Drive to Eastbourne and find your way into Beachheads parking lot to take it from there.

4. Botany Bay.

White Cliffs everywhere. Beautiful instagrammable backdrops. We love this beach for it’s hidden little secret beaches to the right. The fact that you have to be careful not to be cut off by the high tide makes it more adventurous. Our girls loved playing with newly purchased spades. You can buy it right at the beach. Heads up their toilets need some serious TLC.

Time from London:  1h 30 min

5. Margate

is a big winner on our list. It’s such an up and comer of family entertainment especially for South East Londoners.  There is something for everyone. If you’re an art and  museum lover, located in the harbor Turner Contemporary is for you. The charming old town has great cafes, boutiques and oyster restaurants to offer.  Dreamland is a very impressive vintage amusement park. We loved it’s chill and very hip artsy vibe not to mention best Margaritas in Margate. According to the sign on a very cute vintage van/bar anyway. Stay calm! We checked it – it’s true.

Time from London: 1 hour 15 min

6. Hever Castle, Kent.

This 13 century castle was the seat of the Boleyn Family. It will tickle your history fancy as well as make a fun day for the children as there are two play areas, the yew maze and water maze as well as the Castle and grounds. There is always a ton of events, so check their website before planning your trip.

7. Leeds Castle.

Historic landmark,  moat and maze, adventure playground. Always great family activities with trail maps and prices. Their Halloween’s wizard’s academy  is our favorite so far. We had a really good laugh at the singing ’12 days of halloween’ with really fun and creative parents and a witch.

8. Camber Sands beach.

Gorgeous sandy beach outside London. Perfect on a hot summer day. Haha summer what summer, right? It does exist. Just maybe not every year?

9. Kings Bay, Broadstairs.

Hello family pub (Captain Digby’s) with a soft play and a castle on the cliff that you can see from pub’s window. This bay is stunning and a perfect place for a nice weekend walk or bike ride not to mention fun at the beach. Historic landmark – Neptune’s tower is only a short walk away from your parked car.

Time from London – 1 hour 30 min.

10. Greenwich park.

Great place for a family day out when you don’t feel like going too far.  Maritime Museum, best playground with sand pit and water pump, royal observatory and  proximity to Greenwich Market  where you can have a bite, multiple paths to scoot or trees to climb, lot of hills to roly-poly from.  All of this in one place. Amazing.

Time from London – Depends where you are in London for us it’s about a 20 min ride.
